BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT RULES

For Grades 2 - 8

Games will be played at 

Lincoln High School, Adams Coliseum, and Clark Middle School in Vincennes, IN

 

Team listed first on the schedule or the higher seed of bracket is HOME TEAM (light or white jersey). Teams must have light and dark jerseys.  Home team is responsible for the official book.  Visitor team is responsible for official clock.  One coach per team needs to check-in at least 30 minutes before their first game to get a team packet.  Check-in is at Lincoln High School. IHSAA rules apply to all games with the following exceptions:

 

  1. All games will be played in (2) twelve-minute halves.

  2. Halftime shall be no longer than 5 minutes.  At least a five-minute pregame warm-up will be given if games are running behind schedule.  No games will start before their scheduled time unless agreed to by both coaches.  Scheduled start time is game time.  Teams will be allowed 5 minutes grace period from start time; if later than 5 minutes, team forfeits game.

  3. A total of two timeouts per half will be allowed by each team.  One (1) additional time-out per team will be awarded in each overtime period.  Time-outs will not carry over to any overtime periods. Overtime period will be 3 minutes.  

  4. The clock will be stopped for all whistle stoppages, except in the event of a 20-point or greater lead in the last 10 minutes of the game (clock will stop for time-outs).

  5. Two (2) technical fouls during a game on any player, coach, or team representative will result in their disqualification for the rest of the tournament.

  6. For all 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders:  no full court pressing or double-teaming outside the 3-point line until the final 3 minutes of the game AND no zone defense is allowed at anytime AND a 12-foot free throw line will be available to use at the players’ option.

  7. 2nd and 3rd games will be played on 9-foot goals. 

  8. Each team is responsible to provide a representative to assist in keeping the score book or running the game clock.  This must be an adult who will conduct him or herself in a professional manner.

  9. Referee’s decisions are final.

 

ROSTER RULES

Players must participate at present grade level of school.  Players can play up in grade level but not down. Players can only be on one roster and only play for one team during the tournament.  Team roster MUST consist of players that attend the same school or feed into the same high school. Grade and school confirmation should be available upon request by the tournament director.

 

POOL PLAY & TOURNAMENT PAIRINGS

Each team will play two (2) pool games & all teams will advance to a single elimination tournament starting Sunday based on their pool placing using the following criteria:

  1. Pool won-loss record.

  2. Head to Head competition.

  3. Point spread, 20 points maximum of games won or lost.

  4. If needed, a coin flip.
